Swiss side Basel today appointed former Bayern Munich midfielder Thorsten Fink as their new coach.

Fink, who has signed a three-year-deal at St Jakob-Park, takes over from Christian Gross who was sacked last month.

The 41-year-old came on as a substitute in the 1999 UEFA Champions League final as Bayern conceded two last-gasp goals to lose to Manchester United.

He claimed a Champions League winners' medal two years later despite not playing in the final where Bayern beat Valencia on penalties.
